Who’s behind Live Write Work? I’m a 20-year veteran of the media industry and currently a six-figure freelancer. I started this website, and the associated courses, because it took me years (and years!) to learn how to negotiate rates, where to find high-quality contracts and assignments, and how to leverage my professional experience into bylines, retainers and payments.

I wanted to shorten that learning curve for other writers and professionals looking to shift into a writing career.

After years as a journalist, newspaper managing editor, and magazine editor-in-chief, I saw firsthand how the publishing industry changed over the last decade, and many of my colleagues found themselves having to chart completely new careers as freelancers and entrepreneurs.

Many of us weren’t trained in business and didn’t have a clue where to begin, and I knew we needed more resources.

I also knew many SMEs in engineering, commercial real estate, aviation, and other industries who wanted to write books and articles that could change their fields and educate the next generation of professionals just entering their respective sectors. I started helping them organize their book projects, write their first bylined articles, and launch new careers as authors.
